Access Programs
To see the day that every community in rural Mali has an open door to middle school.
School Fees
for Girls
In Mali, only 1 in 7 girls goes on to middle school. When families can't afford registration fees, girls are often the first to leave, and early marriage frequently follows.
Mali Rising keeps girls in school through their middle school years, covering registration fees for girls whose families can't afford them.
Since the program launched in 2016, no girl in any partner school has dropped out because her family could not afford the fees.
Mothers’
Loan Funds
Although women reinvest up to 90% of their income in their families and communities, mothers in rural Mali often can't earn enough to cover their daughters' school fees.
Mali Rising helps mothers earn income, building community loan funds that keep girls' school fees paid long after direct support ends.
Since 2016, Mali Rising has established Mothers' Loan Funds in 12 villages, covering school fees for over 1,000 girls per year.
School Construction
With no middle school nearby, students in rural Mali walk 2 to 6 hours a day to and from school. This leads to enrollment dropping by more than half.
Mali Rising brings middle school closer to home, building schools in partnership with the communities that need them most.
Since 2005, Mali Rising has constructed 30 schools in rural Mali, opening doors to education for over 60,000 students.
